Remove debris before mowing to prevent your mower getting clogged. Never cut off more than a third of the grass volume at any one time, and switch mowing patterns to avoid bare patches and wear. When strimming, work in the direction the strimmer head faces for a clean cut.
Spread mulch to keep plants cool and deprive weeds of light. Put a weeding schedule in place for a new garden, and water carefully so you only feed plants and not any weeds nearby.
Check the soil a few inches near the stem before watering, even if the surface looks dry. Water the base near the root zone rather than the leaves, ideally early morning or late evening when temperatures are lowest.
